Methyl chloride is also called chloromethane. It is mainly used for producing methyl chlorosilane, tetramethyl lead and methylcellulose. In few cases, it is also used for producing quaternary ammonium compounds and pesticides, and used as solvent in the production of butyl rubber.

Technical indicators

Usages: methyl chloride is also called chloromethane. It is mainly used for producing methyl chlorosilane, tetramethyl lead and methylcellulose. In few cases, it is also used for producing quaternary ammonium compounds and pesticides, and used as solvent in the production of butyl rubber.

Precautions: colorless gas, with ether-like slight sweet smell. Melting point: -97.7°C, boiling point: -23.7°C, relative density: 0.92, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethyl alcohol, ethyl ether, benzene, etc. It can form explosive compound with air. It can cause combustion and explosion when encountering open fire and high heat and generate highly toxic phosgene. It can produce spontaneously combustible aluminum compound when contacting aluminum or al-alloy.

Packaging, transportation and storage:

1. Transportation by tank lorry should conform to the provisions of TSGR4002-2011. It should be packaged by dedicated steel cylinder which is coated with silver gray paint outside and bears bright red characters. The printed steel seal number and the tare weight of steel cylinder should meet the provisions of GB14193;

2. During transportation, load and unload gently and prohibit colliding, dragging, falling down or direct sunshine;

3. Methyl chloride for industrial use should be stored in shady and cool, dry and ventilated places and kept away from heat source, sunshine and rain.
